Safe Zones Overlay is a DaVinci Resolve plugin built for editing vertical short-form video, TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Linkedln video, where text and graphics get cut off or blocked by platform UI if you're not careful. It overlays the safe zone boundaries plus a rule-of-thirds grid right on your timeline, with adjustable opacity, and it auto-fits to your timeline so there's no manual setup.

How It Works

Drag the effect onto an Adjustment Clip on your Edit page timeline. Pick your platform from the dropdown, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or Linkedln, and the overlay shows you exactly where that platform's UI sits: buttons, text, interface chrome, plus the automatic zoom-in crop that Instagram and YouTube apply after upload. A safe box sits in the centre. Keep your text, faces, and CTAs inside it and nothing gets covered or cropped once it's live.

  • Opacity slider: dial the overlay down so you can still see your footage underneath
  • Rule of thirds grid: off by default, its own opacity and line width sliders

Installation

  1. Download the SafeZonesOverlay.drfx file
  2. Double-click it, Resolve installs it automatically
  3. Restart Resolve
  4. Find it under Effects > Effects > Fusion Effects
